Re: How do i get rid of this tree weed?

Hello @Crylo

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about the tree weed in your garden.

The plant in question appears to be a type of Cordyline, which can sometimes be considered a "weed" if it's growing in unwanted areas. Cordylines are hardy plants, and their resilience can make them challenging to remove with herbicides like the Yates Weed and Blackberry Killer, especially if they have an established root system.

To deal with it effectively, you might need to manually remove the plant. Start by cutting it back close to the base and digging out the root system as much as possible. Any remaining roots can regenerate, so persistence is key. If digging it out isn’t an option, a stronger herbicide such as Yates Tree & Blackberry Killer applied directly to the freshly cut base (following all safety instructions) may work better. Make sure to apply it immediately after cutting to maximize absorption.

Alternatively, you can use a method called "drilling and filling." Drill holes into the stump and fill them with the herbicide. This ensures that the product reaches the roots more effectively. Since you're in Melbourne, keep in mind the weather and avoid applying herbicide on rainy or windy days for best results.

Please make sure to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and an appropriate mask when using chemicals.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
