Hi,
I laid granitic sand in my garden along a pathway and an area for seating and a fire pit but I don’t think that the layer was thick enough. I laid approx 20mm crushed rock, then approx 30-40mm granitic sand and then compacted it.
It looks a little thin in patches, so my question is can I top it up and compact again?
Hi @JoB166,
Thank you for your question.
You can certainly add more granitic sand and recompact it.
What's happening is that because the granitic sand is finer than the crushed rock, during the compacting process, the granitic sand has settled between the crushed rocks. This is a good thing as it will lock everything together and create a nice solid base for your pathway and seating area.
There's no harm in adding more sand on top and recompacting.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
