How to restore glue-damaged wall without replacing the plasterboard?

Is it possible to restore the drywall without replacing the plasterboard? The board is stained with glue residue that the previous owner used to adhere a garage cabinet board to the wall.

Re: Restoring the drywall without replacing the plasterboard

Hello @ivanptr

I suggest sanding the surface of the plasterboard to get rid of the glue residue on the surface. If there are dep sections that need to be filled, I suggest using Gyprock CSR 2.25kg Less Mess Multi-Purpose Joint Compound in combination with a Craftright 280mm Plasterers Trowel. Your goal is to fill the dips and damages at the same height as the wall or just a little bit over. This will save you from sanding a great deal off plaster off once the filler cures. Once the plasterboard has been repaired you can now paint it to whatever colour you like.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Kind of a Big Deal

Re: Restoring the drywall without replacing the plasterboard

Hi @ivanptr

Yesterday I had exactly the same project to do before installing VJ panel board to the wall. I used a multitool with a wide scraper blade fitted to clean all the old glues and silicones off the wall. My blade has also been sharpened which makes a big difference.
