Can you please tell us the brand and model of your garage door opener. Would it be possible for you to post a photo of your old remote. What is the brand and model of the new remote you purchased. Generally speaking, a learning remote is a type of remote that copies the signal pattern of your old remote. When the learn button is pressed it means that you must press the open button on your old remote.
Your new remote will read this signal and "learn" its new algorithm. Your new remote can now generate the same signal telling your garage door to open. Once you provide us with more information about your remotes, we can then make recommendations on how to proceed.
