How to lay concrete pavers for shed foundation?

G'day.

I'm very new to DIY, but enjoying learning things as projects come up!!

I'm looking at putting in a concrete paver shed foundation (no bigger than 2m x 3m.

I've watched videos and read some other posts in here to get rough ideas, and see that there is layers of gravel first, and then sand (each compacted down) with pavers then on top.

I'm now looking for more exact details:

1. How deep should each layer be?

2. Does Bunnings have the materials for each layer I can buy?

Cheers, Caleb.

Re: How to lay concrete pavers for shed foundation?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @CalebL96. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about installing a shed.

You should first check the recommended base for your shed and any warranty conditions, as many sheds, including the ones we sell, require a concrete or timber frame base. This is important due to the weight of the shed and the need to securely hold it down in high winds. Following these guidelines ensures both the stability of the shed and compliance with the warranty requirements.

When constructing a compacted base with pavers, the process is fairly straightforward. For the gravel layer, you’ll need around 100mm of compacted road base, which forms the solid foundation and allows for proper drainage. On top of that, add about 30-50mm of river sand and compact it to create a smooth, even surface for the pavers. Once the sand is in place and compacted, you can lay the concrete pavers, making sure they’re level. For added stability, you can use a mortar bed between the pavers and the sand.

You should use a hand or plate compactor to help ensure that each layer is properly compacted.

You'll find all the tools and materials you'll need for the project at your local Bunnings.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you!!

Yes, I have been checking this for the warranty on different sheds I'm looking at.

I noticed that Bunnings sells this paver sand - would that work for the sand layer?

Cheers, Caleb.

Re: How to lay concrete pavers for shed foundation?

It would @CalebL96, but it's more expensive than river sand and has no real benefit over it. It is a finer sand, so it would be better used to sweep in between the pavers after you're done installing them.
