We're going to fill in an open window in our brick garage - thinking of using the James Hardie Fine Texture Cladding. We want to be able to install racks on the wall that the cladding will be installed - is it okay to drill into the cladding panels to fix beams and hooks etc for shelving and hanging tools?
Hi @nettyb,
It's fine to drill through the cladding, but I wouldn't be hanging excessively heavy items off it. I'd suggest installing a timber framework in the window opening and fixing chipboard to it so it's flush with the surrounding wall. You can then install your cladding over the top. That way, when you go to install your racks and hooks, you'll install them into the chipboard that will support their weight.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
