Hoist load when turned off?

Hoist load when turned off?

Hello, I understand a hoist holds a load when turned off, different to a winch which only holds a load when powered.

My question is how much load does a hoist hold?

The rating says 100kg lifting capacity. What about holding capacity?

Re: Hoist load when turned off?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @konthegoldcoast. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about hoist lifting capacities.

To determine the holding capacity of a hoist when it's turned off, we would need more specific information about the brand and model of the hoist in question. The lifting capacity rating of 100kg typically indicates the maximum weight the hoist can safely lift when it's in operation, but it doesn't necessarily tell us the exact holding capacity when the hoist is turned off.

The holding capacity of a hoist when it's not powered can depend on various factors, including the design, materials used, and safety mechanisms incorporated into the hoist. To get a precise answer regarding the holding capacity of a particular hoist, it's advisable to refer to the manufacturer's documentation or contact the manufacturer directly. They can provide you with detailed information about how much weight the hoist can safely hold when it's not actively lifting. However, if the lifting capacity is 100kg, then one could determine that to hold it, it would first have to lift it, so the holding capacity could be no more than the lifting capacity.

Remember that safety is paramount when using hoisting equipment, and exceeding the manufacturer's specified limits can be dangerous and lead to equipment failure. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations and guidelines for safe operation.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Also, a question 2 if I may?

Can the hoist electric controls (not the cabled button piece) be retro-fitted with a 3rd party wireless remote control?

Hi @konthegoldcoast,

Pease allow me until after the weekend to consult with the manufacturer.

Re: Hoist load when turned off?

Hi @konthegoldcoast,

With the pully hook installed, that hoist has a max load capacity of 100kg.  This is the lifting and load capacity, so it is designed to hold 100kg. If you were after a higher load capacity, I'd recommend you take a look at the Gorilla 500kg Electric Hoist.

Adding a 3rd party wireless remote could be possible, but you'd need to discuss that with an electrician as it's not something the manufacturer has information on.
