Gyprock/plasterboard with no wood behind

Hi,

In my garage I have plasterboard which seems very flakey. I've managed to put some things up with wallmates and they seem ok, especially inside the house. However, I tried to mount a holding mount for Steadyrack bmx bike. The screwn seemed to go in fine but when I put the bike on it the screw just came out of the wall, nothing really for it to screw into or hold (no stud). The wallmate also came fully out, as in just punctured a hole through the wall, nothing to hold onto.

There is no beam behind the wall for me to mount the steadyrtack, is there any specific bolt or screw assist which I can get from bunnings noting my issue?

The mount rack will hold 1 adult bmx bike and I have another steadyrack which which hold a kids bmx bike.

I assume I just seal over the wholes and then when they are good I can re-use the same spots? Pending having something that will actually hold and not just make a hole in the wall.PXL_20250217_012439550.jpgPXL_20250217_012431525.jpgPXL_20250217_012412292.jpgPXL_20250217_012407039.jpg

Re: Gyprock/plasterboard with no wood behind

Hi @andyroo25,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.

Unfortunately, there is no plasterboard anchor that will be able to support a bike. I also note that the product installation guide says that installing their product on plasterboard alone will void the warranty.

You are going to have to locate a stud using a stud finder.

Check out How to use a stud finder for some guidance.

Once the stud has been located, follow the instructions to install your bike mount safely.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Jacob

I wholeheartedly recommend rare earth magnets to detect stud screws and nails @andyroo25 - once detected use your spirit level to 'draw' the vertical line.

And the price mentioned in Jacob's link is a 'special' price until the 24th of this month - normally around $20. Currently $14.80c

Bargain!
