Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Many Bunnings stores offer a timber cutting service to help you get your wood home and get started on your project.

Here are some frequently asked questions about our timber cutting service to help Bunnings Workshop members.

What type of cuts can be done at a Bunnings store?

Bunnings stores typically have two types of saws for timber cutting.

  • Panel saw – used to cut large sheet materials into smaller rectangular sections and pieces. The machine is capable of both horizontal and vertical cuts on most of our board products. Some examples of products that can be cut using a panel saw include MelaminePlywood and MDF.

Is this service available at my local Bunnings?

You can check whether the timber cutting service is available at a nearby store by visiting the Bunnings website. Here’s how:

  • Mobile device - Select your nearest store and then click on your store's name on the top left of the screen. This will take you to your store's information page, including details about what services they offer

  • Desktop computer - Type the nearest store's name in the change store drop-down and then click on store details. This will take you to your store's information page, including details on what services they offer.

Can I bring my own piece of timber to be cut?

Due to the many variables associated with timber products, we can only cut products purchased from our stores.

When is the best time to visit a store for timber cutting?

Visiting at a quieter time will ensure faster service. It's best to avoid weekends and public holidays as many other D.I.Y. enthusiasts will also be looking to build their own projects.

What if I want to do the cutting at home?

Knowing what saw to use and how to use it is the key to success. Here are some useful guides to get you started:

What if I can't get my timber home?

We offer a number of options to get your products home safely. You can use our free courtesy trailer for up to two hours. If you need more time you can also hire a trailer, a ute or a van to suit your needs. We also offer a comprehensive delivery service to assist you in getting your purchases home. Most stores offer same day or next day service. Please contact your nearest store for details.

Update 14/08/2024: The Bunnings team have provided the following information on our cutting service.

  • Cuts to timber and panels boards are rounded up off to 100mm increments. We are unable to do precision cuts.

  • Minimum length of cut timber is 600mm

  • Customer are required to purchase an remaining offcuts measuring less than 1800mm

  • Multiple timber cuts may incur a charge of $1 per cut.

As always, our helpful members are ready to assist with any questions you have on completing precision cuts for your D.I.Y. projects at home.

Please feel free to let me know if you have further questions about our helpful timber cutting service.

Can Bunnings cut PVC Moulding to size?

Hello,

I was hoping to use some PVC moulding (https://www.bunnings.com.au/brutus-12-x-12-x-1-5mm-2-4m-angle-building-moulding_p1100623  and https://www.bunnings.com.au/permatimber-92-x-15mm-2-7m-antique-white-pvc-bullnose_p0497634 in particular) as light guards for some blinds I've installed. However I am unfortunately car-free and would be looking to get them home via public transport, and I live in an apartment complex with limited space to work on anything. I know that Bunnings offers timber cutting services, but would they also be able to cut these to size? I'm a bit hesitant to bring something just shy of 3m's on the train, and I don't really have the tools or space to prep them in my apartment.

This is a pic of the window btw.

Re: Can Bunnings cut PVC Moulding to size?

Hi @afro-tim,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is great to have you with us.

Unfortunately, the cutting service in Bunnings stores does not extend to PVC products such as these.

My suggestion would be to speak with the timberyard team members and explain what you need to do. They often have hand tools available that can be used in this situation.

You could quite easily cut the Brutus Angle Moulding down in-store with a pair of Aviation Snips and the PermaTimber PVC Bullnose can be cut with a Craftright 500mm Hand Saw.

Let me know if there's anything else I can assist with.

Bunnings wood cutting size limits

Hi, just wondering what is the minimum size limit that bunnings stores can cut for wood/timber products. I went to a store yesterday and they said that the minimum they can cut to is 600mm. Is this the same for all stores? I'm just looking to cut some melamine boards to 44.5cm x 47cm

Re: Bunnings wood cutting size limits

Hi @testtom,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

This is not correct, and I would like to follow this up. The business-wide rule is that you cannot cut anything that puts the operator's hand within 300mm of the saw blade.

You might like to have a read of Does Bunnings cut wood to size? for some further guidance.

I have reached out via PM so I can follow this up for you.

Re: boombox projecter

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @eku5. It's sensational to have you join us and many thanks for your question on our cutting service.

It sounds like you'd need to do some fairly intricate cuts with a jigsaw to create your boombox shape, and those are not possible on our shop saws, which are designed to cut panels down so you can take them home. Here's a helpful guide: How to use a jigsaw. We can certainly cut a panel down to a smaller size to make managing it easier.

Our clever members would be more than happy to assist with guidance on how you could create your boombox. Let us know if you have any questions.

Yellow tongue

Hi there,
Looking to line the walls of my colourbond shed with yellow tongue.
The sheets are too long for my purpose (19x3600x800).
Wondering if Bunnings will cut these down to approx. 2400 (have not measured exactly yet) for me.
Also what would be the best fastener (screw) to fix these to the walls. I believe the wall rails are called "top hats".

thanks

Glenn

Re: Yellow tongue

Hi @glennf,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Sounds like an interesting project, did you have any photos you could share? Let me know if you need any assistance uploading photos, I'd be happy to assist.

Is there a reason you've selected STRUCTAflor Yellow Tongue as a lining material? I ask because a full sheet of Yellow Tongue weighs between 35-40kg, so the additional load placed on your shed would be considerable.

I'd suggest you start by confirming whether the shed is suitable to support the additional weight of the Yellow Tongue.

Some lighter options that might be useful for you are Ecoply 2400 x 1200mm 12mm Plywood Pine Structural CD Grade or Foilboard 10mm x 2400mm x 1200mm Standard 10 Insulation. (A note for our New Zealand members: The use of foil insulation products is prohibited within New Zealand.)

You might like to check out Does Bunnings cut wood to size? for some guidance on what can and can't be cut.

For the screws, I would suggest Buildex 40mm Zinc Plated Countersunk Metal Tek Screws can be used on every available top hat at 300mm centres.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

custom timber cut

Hi, can I have a timber panel cut for the size of 2300 x 90mm?

Re: custom timber cut

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @anniele. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about our timber cutting service.

It sounds like you'd like thin strips cut from a larger panel, so it would be best to discuss your needs with one of our timber-cutting experts in-store. Given they are very thin strips, it might not be possible to do this safely. It would be up to the saw operator to determine that, but I trust they'll do their best to assist.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
