Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Many Bunnings stores offer a timber cutting service to help you get your wood home and get started on your project.

Here are some frequently asked questions about our timber cutting service to help Bunnings Workshop members.

What type of cuts can be done at a Bunnings store?

Bunnings stores typically have two types of saws for timber cutting.

  • Panel saw – used to cut large sheet materials into smaller rectangular sections and pieces. The machine is capable of both horizontal and vertical cuts on most of our board products. Some examples of products that can be cut using a panel saw include MelaminePlywood and MDF.

Is this service available at my local Bunnings?

You can check whether the timber cutting service is available at a nearby store by visiting the Bunnings website. Here’s how:

  • Mobile device - Select your nearest store and then click on your store's name on the top left of the screen. This will take you to your store's information page, including details about what services they offer

  • Desktop computer - Type the nearest store's name in the change store drop-down and then click on store details. This will take you to your store's information page, including details on what services they offer.

Can I bring my own piece of timber to be cut?

Due to the many variables associated with timber products, we can only cut products purchased from our stores.

When is the best time to visit a store for timber cutting?

Visiting at a quieter time will ensure faster service. It's best to avoid weekends and public holidays as many other D.I.Y. enthusiasts will also be looking to build their own projects.

What if I want to do the cutting at home?

Knowing what saw to use and how to use it is the key to success. Here are some useful guides to get you started:

What if I can't get my timber home?

We offer a number of options to get your products home safely. You can use our free courtesy trailer for up to two hours. If you need more time you can also hire a trailer, a ute or a van to suit your needs. We also offer a comprehensive delivery service to assist you in getting your purchases home. Most stores offer same day or next day service. Please contact your nearest store for details.

Re: Can NON Bunnings wooden items be cut to size?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Flik. It's awesome to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about our cutting service.

Unfortunately, our saws are only suitable for sheet and board products, and they are not capable of cutting a bar stool. If you were after a professional finish, it might be worth enlisting the services of a carpenter or utilising services such as Airtasker or hipages to advertise the job.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Can bunnings cut Accoustic panelling to size

Hi @shylaway,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community.

Unfortunately, the acoustic panelling is not able to be cut in store. You would have to cut it yourself using a circular saw.

Bunnings do offer courtesy trailers if you have a tow ball. You might like to enquire at the Service Desk as to the availability at your local store.

Additionally, Bunnings offer delivery services if you don't have a tow ball this can be organised through the Special Orders or Trade desks at your local store.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Re: Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Tommy85. It's marvellous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about our timber-cutting service.

Unfortunately, due to its thickness, that panel is considered a benchtop. I'm sorry but we are unable to cut it on our in-store saws.

I recommend you cut it at home for the best results, and the Ryobi 1500W 184mm Corded Circular Saw would be suitable for this purpose. Here's a helpful guide: The D.I.Y. guide to the circular saw.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Does Bunnings have a drum roller or sander I can use?

Building a magnetic knife rack, the timber I’ve chosen is Jarrah a pain to work with but beautiful colours when finished. I’ve got some timber lengths that I need dressed down or sanded down to 50mm currently 80mm , I don’t have a drum roller / sander at home and was wondering if bunnings had one in the cut shop ?

Re: timber dressing / trimming

Hi @Fozzy23,

Our timber cutting service is for docking lengths of timber and cutting panels to a smaller size. We don't have a thicknesser to reduce your timber from 80mm to 50mm. Perhaps you might like to check with your local Men's Shed to see if that were a job they'd like to take on for you. Or, if you're getting into woodworking, a thicknesser would be a great addition to the workshop.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Does Bunnings cut timber to size?

Good day,

I was wondering if Bunnings can cut this timber panel: https://www.bunnings.com.au/specrite-2400-x-900-x-33mm-timber-multi-use-pine-panel_p0419614. to 1200 x 800 mm. I am thinking to use the cut panels as table tops. I was in a Bunnings store nearby and said that they do not cut such panels as these are laminates and prone to damage in the cutting process. Kindly advise, please. Thank you in advance.

Re: Does Bunnings cut timber to size?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @FXMV. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about our cutting service.

Cutting laminates can cause them to be damaged, but that panel being 33mm thick will be an issue too. It's pushing the capacity on our saws, and that, combined with it being a laminate, really puts it outside what we would be comfortable cutting. It's always up to the operator to decide whether the timber is suitable to be cut and it appears in this circumstance that they have deemed it not to be. If you have any concerns, I'd encourage you to speak with a manager at the store, and I trust they'll try their best to assist.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Making wood blocks.

I wish to purchase two metres of 850mm (or there abouts) of pine timber to then paint and decorate to make blocks. Would Bunnings cut the wood into100 mm bits? Happy to pay as it would save me a lot of time and do a better job than I could.

regards George

Re: Making wood blocks.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @GeorgePetre. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about our cutting service.

Unfortunately, 100mm would be under the safe working limit of our saws, so we wouldn't be able to cut those blocks for you.

You might like to check with your local Men's Shed to see if they'd be willing to take on that job for you.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
