Custom yet simple shoe rack

Built this custom yet simple shoe rack solution to add extra space for my wife to store her shoes. This was the best I could do with my limited knowledge and expierence. I'm glad my wife liked it and still uses it (although there was always this complaint that it is not closed so it will collect dirt !)

I was able to make 2 items using the materials - Wine rack (https://www.workshop.bunnings.com.au/t5/Kitchen/Built-in-wine-rack-above-fridge/td-p/233527) and this shoe rack.

I should have used castor wheels, for easy movement of the rack (not that I have moved it since I put it in it's place).

Materials

- Black Melamine Colourboard 1800x295x16mm (for making shelves and rack)

- Timber Screws 4x25mm (to put the boards together)

- MDF Standard Panel 2400x1200x6mm (for back side)

- Harboard Nails 20x1.6 100G (to fix the back panel)

- 4 Metal legs

- Shelving support (for height adjustable shelves)

- SELLEYS PVA Adhesive (to glue boards before screwing them)

- Cabots Stain and Varnish Walnut (to paint the back MDF panel)

Tools

Steps

Step 1

- Measured the area and cut the board into four pieces to make a rectangle

- Cut the MDF panel to make the back cover for the case

- Painted the MDF panel with walnut stain and varnish

- Used glue and screwed them to make a rectangular case

- Attached the 4 legs

- Drilled holes to make adjustable height for shelves

Re: Custom yet simple shoe rack

Hello @sportyrom

Thank you very much for sharing the materials and steps you used to create this very accommodating shoe rack. There is no doubt that your custom shoe rack will be able to hold a great number of shoes. I propose thinking about using Windoware 120 x 223cm White Claire Sheer Tab Top Curtain as a possible cover for the shoe rack. It's light weight and will barely take up any space in front of the cabinet.

Again, thank you for sharing such a wonderful project.

Eric

See something interesting? Give it the thumbs up!
