I picked up a Brades Co spade head made in 1918 from the recycling centre along with a package of other things for ten dollars. Some misguided individual had used it to mix cement most recently. After two weeks in the vinegar bath, a new Cyclone long handle and two galvanised self tapping screws another useful edition to my gardening tools. This antique spade was made in 1918 by Brades foundry Oldbury England in the Black Country. After putting an edge back on it it cuts the ground just as well 105 years later. It is interesting to note Brades was ultimately absorbed by Spear and Jackson which Bunnings stocks today
Nice work @rgoyne! It looks like the spade has another 105 years' worth of service. There is nothing better than putting good tools back into service.
Many thanks for sharing.
