Advice on what I need to get in Bunnings that is similar to what's being used in this tutorial

Hi, I was trying to make a fishing rod storage tube using PVCs by following this Youtube tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=nY6FmrBtfM8) from a guy in the US.

I have a spare 65mm x 1m DWV Holman PVC Pipe from Bunnings as the body and am looking for the Female Adaptor Hub and a Male Plug as stated in the video to go with it. If there are no female adaptor hub, I can look for a Cleanout Adaptor and a Coupling to replace the Female Adaptor Hub, as advised in the video.

I have one of this.I have one of this.I am looking for something Bunnings have that's equivalent to these from the video to achieve the one in the last pic.I am looking for something Bunnings have that's equivalent to these from the video to achieve the one in the last pic.

I have checked the Bunnings catalogue to find similar ones to the accessories mentioned in bold, but to no avail. Maybe I am missing something that Bunnings have that would be equivalent to getting the job done.

So, any kind soul who can assist me and advise me on what parts I can get to achieve the same result in the video would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello @Kruzon

My apologies for the late reply. Building a fishing rod storage holder is one of my favorite D.I.Y. projects. Unfortunately, we have different parts available here, but we can come very close to the setup the tutorial has shown. I understand you already have a Holman 65mm x 1m PVC DWV Pipe, however, it will take one extra piece to reduce the opening down to 50mm as there are limited 65mm adapters. Ideally, it would be more streamlined if you were to build it in 50mm, on the assumption that your fishing rod fits into the 50mm pipe. I suggest bringing your fishing gear to the store to make sure it fits.

You can use EVA 50 x 50cm Interlock Foam Mats Solid Black Pk4 for the end buffers or an old pair of rubber thongs that are no longer in use. I recommend using Protek 125ml Type N Blue Cement Solvent to glue it all together.

Please keep us updated with your progress, we look forward to seeing your fishing rod holder assembled.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.

Hi @Kruzon , if the 50mm size as suggested by @EricL doesn't suit your rod, then the only other option that I can suggest is to try a reticulation specialist supplier.  They generally carry a larger range of pipe sizes and fittings.

Thank you so much for these suggestions. Quite a lot of planning now that I have to weigh in the pros and cons of both the 65mm or to get a 50mm and start all over etc... Definitely need more time to think before I make a purchase, but very useful information indeed, so thanks!

Thank you for your advice, I tried finding a reticulation specialist online for just in case 50mm doesn't work for me and  have to resort to the 65mm (which most likely will be), do you have a few of these contacts you would recommend? I'm around Castle Hill of NSW, 2154

Hello @Kruzon

Most of the people I help at the store usually have more than one fishing pole. The most common set they get is the Holman 90mm x 1m Stormwater Pipe. I suggest while looking at the different sizes to consider this one as well. Aside from extra fishing poles, you can also store a small box of lures, hooks, and other fishing accessories. There's possibly enough room for a compact spinning reel as well.

Here is the list for building it in 90mm.

If you have any other questions about this project, please let us know.

Re: Advice on what I need to get in Bunnings that is similar to what's being used in this tutorial

That is a good suggestion, I do be keeping quite a few rods in one especially when travelling interstate, I will be considering the 90mm even if it means starting over my half-made indestructible tube...
