A creative ute-shaped bookshelf with storage behind the door and headlights that could be used as a night light.

The project

It took me about a week to make this ute bookshelf for my son. I used Pine boards from Bunnings, which I stained with black paint and water. For the door I used grey paint and water – a wash effect with a rag. The lights are also from Bunnings.

I then made a feature wall back to complement my son's ute bookshelf. I wanted a dark colour but not black, so I went with a charcoal grey. I also added some wood to ‘wrap’ around the ute so that it didn’t look like the ute was just floating in the middle of the wall. I painted it the same colour to keep it subtle and not take away too much from

the car, and I installed a couple of hooks for his hats. I’m really happy with how it turned out, especially how it looks at night with the car lights on.
