Succulent frames are an easy D.I.Y. project and a great way to spruce up a bare wall.
I made succulent frames to hang on our courtyard wall. After three years, they started to look a bit tired, so I remade them with some improvements.
I used treated Pine nailed together with 45 degree mitres to form an open box. I made the bottom of the box using corflute sheeting. My original design used marine ply, which didn't hold up to the constant moisture. I previously used a succulent potting mix, but found it kept falling out of the frame.
This time I decided to first line the box with garden plastic, and I used sphagnum moss instead of soil.
The frames hang on the wall via French cleats.
Once the succulents took root, I hid the exposed plastic and chicken wire edges with a timber trim.
A vertical garden can provide greenery and colour to enliven a drab location and provide plenty of growing space in even very small areas. Create your own by following this step-by-step guide: How to build a vertical garden.
Bunnings Workshop member Jamespeter100 cut an ellipse out of a pallet, added feet and joined two hanging baskets together to create this wonderful succulent stand.
ProjectPete hung planters on a pallet to create a simple succulent display that enlivens a boring fence.
Seriously this is awesome !!! Absolutely love Succulent wall frames 💚💚 beautiful living wall features @gregoreau
Those vertical picture frame succulent planters are stunning !!!!!! 💚
These look amazing.
I think I will have to give these a go.
How often do you have to water them?
It gets very hot here, I'm thinking maybe, I could give this a go and put some water crystals in with the moss..
Thank you for sharing..

Hi @Old-gal24,
In case @gregoreau doesn't get back to us, your watering regime will be dictated by where you place the frame, local weather conditions and the amount of medium you've used for the plants to root into. Typically, in a sunny location, you'd be looking at watering twice a week. At other times of the year, you might only water once every couple of weeks. I have succulents in a shady location that doesn't receive rain that I seldom water at all.
