Sleek metal legs and new paint and knobs give these Pine bedside tables a contemporary look.
My challenge was to rescue, reimagine and completely revamp these dated and damaged '80s colonial nightstands.
I removed the decorative base skirt trim and replaced the swollen, water-damaged MDF bases with new fibreboard from Bunnings.
As the tables were too short for modern beds, I decided to add 15cm gold legs for a sleek, modern feel. I sanded, cleaned and filled any gaps (the Pine tops on these were both split and needed gluing and clamping).
The painted finish was all hand-brushed by me, starting with a base of Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 primer from Bunnings. I gave it three coats in a tranquil colour palette and some complementary new hardware.
Now they are so beautiful, clean and sleek looking, and at 65cm tall are the recommended standard height for modern beds. I feel confident that these lovely bedsides will have a long life ahead of them.
