Ekodeck is a durable and low maintenance alternative to hardwood decks that resembles the natural look of timber without the need for oiling or painting.
Spring is almost here and today we started digging the holes for the foundations of my new deck. I decided to go with Ekodeck Plus Classic Red Rock Composite Decking, and will install with Quickfix – a concealed fastening system with no visible nails or screws through the board.
I really am a timber girl, but I'm thinking of the maintenance factor and I must say the boards I've chosen (red rock) look mighty fine.
Roll on summer. The new deck is done – complete with roof, fridge, furniture, dry creek bed and garden. The party starts tomorrow with Christmas drinks. Today, I cleaned the deck, ready for tomorrow. It was dusty with work boot footprints, loads of bird poo plus bark and leaves from surrounding trees. This was the first proper clean I have done. Soft broom sweep, warm water on sponge for bird poo, and then I used a squeeze mop with warm water over the deck – no oil or cleaning products! Ekodeck is wonderful. It came up looking brand new – no marks or stains anywhere. I love this product! I'm waiting for the true test tomorrow when the hungry hordes arrive to gallop all over it.
My 2.5 x 5.4m Ekodeck has been in use for over 12 months now and has seen the usual wear and tear of happy people by the river over summer. And, of course, food and alcohol. But I couldn't be happier. I cleared and swept the deck before using warm water and a small amount of dishwashing liquid to wash away all the marks and bird poo. A stiff brush removed stubborn spots, and then I rinsed with clean water and dried with a squeeze mop. I have done this three times in the last year, and each time takes about an hour. Apart from a small paint splash by a contractor, the deck still looks new and I just love it. No scraping, scrubbing and no re-surfacing with stain.
