This artistic painted feature wall adds a sense of drama to a previously dull dining room. The project was the winner of best paint project in our D.I.Y. July competition to find Australia's best D.I.Y. projects of 2022.
Our dining room had no windows and had always been a bland, uninspiring space. I wanted to make it an interesting space we'd be happy to use every day and entertain in.
I decided to work within its limitations. I painted a cloud fresco on one wall and painted the other wall a dark charcoal (Dulux Domino).
I did the base coat in navy paint, then when it had dried I sponged and blended other colours (grey, white and black) over the navy. I applied the three colours in small sections, wetting with a spray bottle and blending with sponges as I went. After that had also dried I did another coat of sponged clouds to build up the paint (especially over the whiter areas).
The cloud wall is beautiful to look at down the hallway, both in natural light and when the light is on in the evening.
I added a new lightshade from Bunnings and it’s now a moody, interesting space.

Love it! You have blended that wall in so well. I like the depth it has given it and makes you want to sit down and let the world rage by outside
