The project

I've been wanting to renovate my backyard patio since I purchased this property early last year. The outdoor area was looking tired and letting down the overall look and feel of the space.

Finally got the time this winter to tackle my first outdoor D.I.Y. project. I was able to achieve the look I was after, so I'm happy with the results. Our outdoor space is a lot more inviting now.

The majority, if not all, of the tools and hardware used for this project were sourced from Bunnings. At a high level, these were the completed jobs:

  • Built two treated Pine decks – 4300 x 4100mm and 4200 x 4200mm.

  • Built a daybed 2400 x 800 x 450mm.

  • Built a planter box 3600 x 600 x 800mm. I used H4 treated timber sleepers and posts for the planter boxes frame. I also used some treated pine decking boards over the sleepers for the dressed look. These were the same boards I used for decking.

  • Planted Bangalow Palms, hoping they will grow fast and screen the neighbour's windows. I also plan to fit outdoor roller blinds to the pergola for additional privacy.

  • Installed Holman deck lights. They are D.I.Y. friendly and easy to install. You will need to install the Holman controller/transformer to draw power to the LED lights. It supports up to 60watts and each of these LEDs only require around 0.6 watts, so you can connect plenty of lights. I also installed Holman spotlights to highlight the palms and trees. If you decide to use these lights, go for the Bluetooth-enabled controller. I control switching the lights on and dimming the lights all from my phone.

  • Spray painted the fence using Dulux RapidFinish paint.

  • Built a wall feature using garden screening and a LED strip.

Wow @Chiren_J this is such a great project - I initially imagined this would be really hard to create but you have made it look so easy! The timelapse is just fantastic too 😁

@ThompsonWhanau  what projects do you have in the making? Are you also creating a deck?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @DIYImpressions. It's wonderful to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about the fence painting project.

It's great that this makeover has inspired you to do your own remodeling project. Let me tag @Chiren_J so that they are made aware of your kind words and question. I recommend watching the video of the makeover, they mentioned that the fence was spray painted and used a colour called charcoal grey. However, they didn't mention which brand of paint they used.

Are you planning a fence painting project for your home? Any updates you can provide would be much appreciated. If you have any questions about your project, please don't hesitate to post them. Our members would be more than happy to provide advice and information.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
