How to replace 2 shower taps to one mixer?

My old shower taps are beyond repairable at moment. In order to fix the leaking problem but not break shower unit wall I am thinking of replacing them with a mixer. Is it practical for me to do DIY by changing 2 shower tap to one mixer? is such mixer available from Bunnings? Many thanks.

Re: transform 2 shower taps to one mixer

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @YCTap. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about mixer taps.

To change from two separate taps to a single mixer, you'd need a plumber to access the wall internals and install the new mixing device. Unfortunately, there’s no way to do this without opening up the shower unit wall — it’s not something that can be done externally.

You might like to tell us a little more about the issues you’re experiencing with your current taps. Most problems with older tap sets are repairable, so I’d be happy to help troubleshoot and hopefully save you from needing a big job like a mixer installation if it's avoidable.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: transform 2 shower taps to one mixer

Hi Mitchell, thank you for your message. I recently found a YouTube video showing that an external mixer can be installed by using two existing tap holes. Please see the video link and tell me what do you think.

Re: transform 2 shower taps to one mixer

Hello @YCTap

Excellent spotting! I was going to recommend using the Quoss Reno Transformer Freestyle Shower Full Set WELS 3 Star 8L/min for your project especially if you are not yet ready to take your bathroom apart. This is an excellent way to upgrade your tapware without having to change all your plumbing. I would recommend engaging the services of a licensed plumber to install your new shower mixer for safety and compliance. This will also provide you with a guarantee from the plumber should any leaks occur.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
