Hi my tap is leaking but I am unable to remove this gold cap, I have managed to rotate the flange underneath. The brand is Centique.
Thank you for your assistance.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @janbris. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about remove a stuck tap cap.
The gold cap on your tap likely needs to either be unscrewed or pulled off, depending on the design. Often, these caps can become stuck due to mineral buildup, corrosion, or dried-out threads over time. To make removal easier, spray a lubricant like WD-40 around the spindle shaft and at the top of the cap. Allow it to sit for a few minutes to penetrate and loosen any stuck threads.
If the cap is still difficult to remove, try using a rubber strap wrench, which provides a firm grip without damaging the finish. Gently turn it counterclockwise to see if it unscrews. Avoid using excessive force that could damage the tap or the flange.
It’s not uncommon for fittings like this to become stubborn over time, especially in areas with hard water. Persistence is key, and sometimes a combination of patience and light tapping with a soft mallet can help loosen any stuck parts. Once removed, inspect the cap and surrounding area for debris or corrosion, as cleaning it thoroughly will help with reassembly and prevent future issues.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
