I attempted to install the mondella laundry taps but they leak. upon inspection, it looks like they are too deep internally. When they screw onto the pipe from the wall, they want to keep turning and I run out of pipe before they hit the tiles. from my measurements, I need 40mm coming out of the wall to make it sit tightly but my pipes past the tiles are about 25mm. the old ones were in place since new (16years)
any ideas?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @gregjohn. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about installing taps.
Firstly, I need to point out that this is considered plumbing work and requires a licensed plumber for installation. However, the fitting shouldn't need to be entirely screwed on to seal, that's only for fittings that use a gasket at the base of the threaded section. In a fitting like this, the act of sealing is done by using thread tape on the exposed thread on the wall fitting. The amount of thread tape also governs how far you can screw the fitting on. So for this installation, a plumber would likely wrap 6-8 revolutions of thread tape onto the wall fitting and then screw the tap on. As the tap screws on, it tightens when it hits the thread tape and then seals the thread at whatever position on the threaded outlet that might be.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
