My laundry was in desperate need of an update so ripping everything out left me with a blank canvas. I learnt so much doing my own plumbing installing a new trough, re-connected the plumbing, worked out how to install new door handles, measured and cut timber to make a window ledge and bench top not to mention installing a wall cupboard. My nod to the styling of yesteryear is the black pressed tin splash-back which I absolutely love! The black doors against the blue-grey walls makes a statement. Who said a laundry has to be boring?

Before: an absolute hodge podge of wonky furniture, outdated shelves and oh my gosh - those bright blue walls
The first step was to remove the wall mounted shelves and stand alone storage, then I puttied up the holes and sanded, ready to paint the walls.
Then it was time to use my chisel to lever off the outdated back-splash tiles in preparation for the pressed tin panel.
I disconnected the plumbing from the old sink before removing the sink and cupboard unit. I found out that the base was sitting on rubble which presented a new challenge to overcome in preparation to install the new cupboard and sink. PS Don't forget to turn the mains water supply off before disconnecting your plumbing!!!
Never having done any kind of plumbing before, it took me ages (and SO many trips to Bunnings!) to get the right equipment and lots of helpful advice. It was a dirty, messy, frustrating but eventually successful job in getting all of the plumbing back into place and working - without any leaks! Eventually
I painted the walls and doors and then began assembling the flat pack furniture which took forever to put together but putting the doors on and adjusting the hinges took even longer! Putting up the wall mounted cupboard on my own took a lot of creativity and strength (who needs a gym?) and maybe a bit of swearing for good measure.
The handles went onto the cabinet doors nice and easily and a nice wack of liquid nails made sure that my timber bench top wasn't going anywhere. I cut down some of the leftover panel of wood and mounted it under the window to form a window sill. PS The mess of liquid nails under the sill got cleaned up and painted over.
After painting the trim black to match the tin, I liquid nailed the tin to the wall and attached the trim around all of the sides to neaten the edges.
I mounted the hooks on the wall and used the large self adhesive hooks on the back of the door to allow for hanging storage.
A fun sign and some pretty glass dispensers on a wood and wire shelf add some styling to a functional room.
Keeping the black wire and acacia wood tones throughout all of the decorating items makes sure that the room feels tied together.
Even the light fixture was chosen to match the aesthetic.
Ta-da! Everything back into place and ready to put this much improved room to use.
Wow, @Sonia_B!
Your laundry renovation looks fantastic. The pressed tin splashback adds a unique touch, and the combination of black doors with blue-grey walls really makes a statement. I love the warmth you've brought to the room by incorporating the timber benchtop, too. It sounds like you learned a lot and gained valuable D.I.Y. skills throughout the process.
Great job on transforming your space!
Mitchell
Thanks Mitchell,
It was definitely a huge opportunity to learn a range of D.I.Y. skills. It's amazing what you can achieve when you give it a go 😀
Afternoon @Sonia_B
Thats some nice work and lots of it! You have definently lifted it into a modern laundry!
I really like the splashback that you came up with! Strangely I was thinking of that pressed metal this morning for my foyer area
It looks like you had a load of fun, frustration sometimes but fun Makes me want to go and do things at home!
Dave
Thanks @Dave-1
I love the idea of pressed metal for a foyer area. What a way to make a grand entrance!
Enjoy your DIY-ing
