What is the difference in quality between Kaboodle and Flatpax? Both appear to be made from melamine. In terms of waterproof and overall wear and tear is there a difference?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @JodyO. It's to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about comparing Kaboodle to Flatpax.
Both manufacturers construct their cabinets from melamine-covered chipboard. While both brands are similar in construction, there are differences in the quality of the materials used, the manufacturing process, and the durability of the finished product. Kaboodle is the premium range, and Flatpax is the more budget-friendly option. If you take a look at the door on Kaboodle you'll note that they are available in Melamine, thermoformed or UV Gloss finishes. The edges on the Kaboodle doors are far more water resistant than on the Flatpax units, the thermoformed being completely waterproof on the front. The top edges of the doors are a typical location where moisture can enter.
You'll find the hinges on Kaboodle units are of higher quality than the Flatpax, with smoother operation and longevity.
The warranty is better on the Kaboodle, giving you 10 years on the cabinets, hinges and drawer runners, handles, doors and panels and laminate benchtops.
In regards to the choice between the two, if you are looking for premium cabinetry in your kitchen, you can't go past the Kaboodle, but if you are looking to save a quid in a laundry, then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Flatpax. You can also use Kaboodle benchtops on the Flatpax cabinets so that you can have the best of both worlds. Don't forget we also have the Practa range, and @prettyliving's Budget Bunnings laundry makeover is a great example of its use.
