Is this glue or mould underneath tiles?

I've ambitiously decided I would rip out these tiles in my bathroom. These tiles don't get wet. I was wondering if this is just glue or glue and mould?

And how do I remove it?

It sounds like it would be a good idea to get the adhesive you have found tested regardless. If you've got any concerns about it being asbestos, then it is definitely a good idea to have it tested.

To my eyes it looks like a Dunlop premixed wall adhesive product? Dark in colour and dries with a 'sponge' like quality for flexibility.

Just a thought.
