How to unscrew these taps?

Hi, recently my bath tap has been leaking and was thinking about unscrewing the tap handles to replace the valves, but am having some trouble.

I’ve looked over the internet to understand how to remove this type of tap handle, but cannot find anything on it.

Re: How to unscrew these taps?

Hello @harryg16

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about removing your tap handles.

I believe you have a traditional skirt locking tap handle. I propose trying this method, hold onto the front of the tap handle with your left hand and using your right hand grip the rear conical skirt and turn it anti clockwise. If it turns and starts to loosen up, keep turning until it is totally loose you can then try to pull the handle off.

If that doesn't work, another thing you can try is to hold the tap handle from the rear and try to unscrew the round cover at the front. If it is too slippery, I suggest getting some rubber gloves to get a good grip. Tell us how you go and if the techniques I suggested work.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
