How to tile and waterproof under bathtub?

I'm planning a bathroom renovation and am not sure about the bath and floor.

The bath is fibreglass and supported by custom wooden frame. It will be going into the corner if the bathroom with villaboard overhanging the edge. We will be tiling the floor and the side of the bath support. We will have freshly I installed scion secura floor.

I'm not sure about the sequence of reinstalling the bath?

Do we waterproof and tile under the bath, then install the frame in the tile, that sounds like a bad idea. Do we fix the frame to the secura floor, put villaboard over the frame for tiling, and waterproof as per the james hardie wet area guide? Both?

What would we use to fix the bath support frame to the secura floor?

Re: How to tile and waterproof under bathtub?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @diyaaron. It's amazing to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about installing a bath.

In general, it's best to first install the support frame for the fibreglass bath, securing it to the Scyon Secura floor. Once the frame is in place, you can then install the Villaboard over the frame, ensuring it is properly fixed and sealed according to the James Hardie wet area guide. This approach allows you to create a stable base for your bathtub without compromising the waterproofing.

After installing the Villaboard, you can then focus on waterproofing the area, ensuring that all joints and seams are adequately sealed.

As waterproofing is an important aspect of bathroom renovations, I strongly recommend speaking with a waterproofing professional for guidance. Getting this step wrong can lead to significant water damage and costly repairs down the line, so it's worth ensuring everything is done correctly from the start. They can provide specific advice tailored to your situation and help ensure that your installation is both functional and long-lasting.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
