How to stop water accumulation around bathtub when taking shower?

Dear DIY community,

I purchased an old house with a bath tub that is install in a frame and NOT flushed against the wall. See the photo.

When taking a shower, the water splashes back and accumulates on the tiles around the edge and slips down to the floor.

Obviously, this is a very bad design.

I am looking for some idea to mitigate the issue. Or am I doomed having to tear it all apart ? Thanks

Re: Water accumulation around bath tub when taking shower.

Hello @Louis

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about the surround around your bathtub.

If you or someone you know has a 3D printer, it might be possible to print a large U-shaped catch tray to redirect the water back into the tub. Another option is to place and glue tiles at the end of the bath to force the water back into the tub. The only other way is to remove tiles and move the bath forward so that it catches water properly and not gather at the tiled section of the bath.

In the meantime, I suggest putting a towel at the ned of the bath while you are showering to prevent water from overflowing and creating a slipping hazard outside your bath.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
