How to stop drafts from window fan?

How to stop drafts from window fan?

I have 3 window fans or vents built into different windows  (like in the image below)

1. One of the vanes appears jammed (it doesn't open)

2. One of the vanes appears to have a slat missing making it useless

3. One does not have a vane

I want to ensure hot or cold air doesn't come in (plus flies, etc).

What do I need to buy? Replace existing vane or new fan? and in both cases, how hard will it be to do the replacement myself (ie remove and replace existing vane or replace the whole fan) myself

Re: Stopping Drafts in Exhaust/Window Fan

Hello @Kingleviathan

The first thing that came to mind is the manufacturers sticker might still be attached to the body of the fan. If it is, I suggest getting the details of the fan and the manufacturer. I recommend giving them a call in regards to purchasing spare parts such as the louver assembly at the back. I can't suggest putting anything in front or back of the fan as it might interfere with its operation and causing it to fail or overheat.

My only other suggestion is to think about upgrading your fan to a Blauberg 150mm White WIND Window Exhaust Fan. This is a window mount set as well, but you'll need to double check the cutout size in your glass panel to make sure that it is compatible.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Re: Stopping Drafts in Exhaust/Window Fan

So I have 3 of these fans. The one I looked at did not have any label or sticker, but one of the other fans did; it is by S&P (Soler Paleu). I have sent an email to the Australian representative

Re: Stopping Drafts in Exhaust/Window Fan

They said they don't provide spare parts (like the vane) and encouraged me to buy a new fan.

Right now i have a fan that appears to be 30cm x 30cm cut into the glass so would surely be this model - HCM-225N HCM series from FanTech in Australia (its 298mm)...so i need a fan that fits nicely into the glass (which would be HCM-225NAØ: 298 mm, DØ: 262–267 mm gong by the model specifications)

- I could get the same model or another model but it needs to fit into this glass.   The Blauberg 150mm White WIND Window Exhaust Fan is the wrong shape and too large

The fans should be self closing...

Re: Stopping Drafts in Exhaust/Window Fan

Hello @Kingleviathan

The only other fan I can suggest is the Manrose 300mm Window Mounted Commercial Exhaust Fan. This unit will fit through circular cut glass and has an insect grill outside to prevent vermin from coming in.
