How to replace my timber windowsill?

IMG-20221101-WA0000.jpg

hi all, I'm hoping to replace our current timber window sill in our bathroom with tiles. The window sill goes all the way around the ?aluminium window. Given the bath tub taps are just right under the window, are there any issues with waterproofing or large gaps or other surprises if I'm to just rip it out?

Re: replacing windowsill

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @qtse. It's fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about replacing a windowsill.

Just to confirm, do you want to remove the timber section of the windowsill, leave the aluminium window and replace the timber with tiles? I don't think you'll have too many surprises, but I wouldn't be shocked if the aluminium window was attached to the timber sill. The timber might not come away as easily as you hoped. You'll also need to replace the timber with an interior lining board so you can tile over it.

Typically waterproofing wouldn't reach that height unless this is a bath/shower combo. You will find substantial gaps once you've removed the timber, but you'll cover over those with the lining board.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

Mitchell
