Need to repair some holes in an old metal shower tray around the drain - doesn’t need to be pretty; just needs to do the job. I am aware a tray replacement would be a better idea but that’s not an option right now. Thanks!
Hello @sarahj1
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your metal shower tray.
For a temporary repair, I propose sanding the rusted areas and removing as much of the rust as possible. To create a base for the patch under your tray, I recommend spraying Parfix 340g Triple Expanding Foam Filler into the gaps. The foam in theory should float up through the surface of the tray through the rust holes. Once the foam cures properly trim it off with a craft knife. To seal the rust holes, I suggest using PC Products 57g PC Marine Epoxy Putty. Mix it well and put an even thick patch over the rusted holes.
Allow the putty to cure and spray the surface with Rust-Oleum 312g Clear LeakSeal Flexible Rubber Coating Spray. The only condition to this repair is that you must avoid stepping onto the putty and putting your full weight on it. It will temporarily slow down the deterioration of your tray, but at some point, a replacement must be put in.
