How to remove tile cement from bathroom wall and floors?

Hi I just stared renovating the bathroom just removed the tiles want to clean up all the old cement and smooth the surface so I can apply 2 water proofing layers. What is the best method of smoothing the surface. Do I sand it down with and electrical sander or is there a better way. I do have a layer of water proofing in the corners. I think. I was also going to remove this. With the method you advice..

thanks

Re: Removing old tile cement from bathrooms wall and floors

Hi @Andrear,

I'd suggest you would have more luck with an angle grinder and diamond cup blade than a sander. It's exceptionally dusty work, so ensure you are wearing a respirator and safety goggles. Remember that you don't need to remove all the glue if it is well adhered and can tile over it. You only need to remove proud areas that would affect you evenly laying the tiles.

The waterproofing in the corner appears to be separating in one of your images, so I'd suggest you keep pulling it away and out of the corner.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
