Hello @rozella52
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your mixer tap.
The chrome cover cap which covers the brass locking nut can be remove by simply holding on tight to its body and turning it anticlockwise. It's quite often made of plastic so please be careful, but every now and then some manufacturers use brass. Once you've twisted the cover cap off, you'll now have access to the brass locking nut which you can remove by using a shifter and again turning it anti clockwise.
Once the locking nut is removed you can pull the ceramic cartridge out. I suggest bringing it with you to the store so that you can compare it to the replacement cartridge you'll be getting. Make sure that it is the same width and length, double check the bottom to ensure that they are the same configuration.
Once you have your new cartridge reinstall it carefully and make sure not to overtighten the brass locking nut to prevent cracking the ceramic cartridge. I've placed a sample image below to give you an idea of how it is generally assembled.

Hi Eric,
Thanks for your answer.
The cover cap is made of steel and is so tight that every effort to remove has proven unsuccessful.
Would you have any ideas of how to remove it?
Once I manage to do that, the rest will be simple.
Thanks
Hello @rozella52
I suggest using an Appetito Silicone Jar Opener Red or similar. You can also try using Craftright 45cm Red PVC Gloves or a combination of putting the jar opener on top and using a Craftright 3 Piece Multigrip Plier Set to grip the cover. The jar opener will prevent the cover from getting damaged.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
Eric
Hello @EricL
In the end the multigrip prier did the trick, even though the cover cap sustained some scraping. It may be possible to find a spare to replace it.
I have also learned that vinegar is very good at removing mineral deposits (carbonates) that lock up moving parts.
I already had a spare mixer from years ago.
Thank you very much for your assistance.
