How to remove tap spindle?

How to remove tap spindle?

Have you meet the old water spindle glued tightly and hard to remove?

My old laundry water tap leaks. So I buy the plumbing spanner from Bunnings and new water tap set to replace it. But the old spindle was glued tightly. The tools failed to remove it.

And advice?

G'day Honest @Honest52

"So I buy the plumbing spanner from Bunnings"

What spanner did you buy?

Forensically - it looks like I'm seeing 'teeth marks' on the round section - which is how people from the past have removed it previously?

There is an old discussion on the net discussing these 'square' ended spindles and the verdict was each side is 19.5mm in length. Square tube spanners are now very rare apparently.

Suggestions include.

WD40 (personally, I find it useless in situations like this)

Tying to get a 20mm open-ended spanner onto the square.

Or a long nosed shifting spanner (Trojan).

Trying a large self locking pipe wrench on the cylindrical section.

If you manage to remove it - toss it. Purchase a new hexagonal ended spindle.

Failing all that - a plumber.  🙂

Here's one plumber's opinion...

Re: How to remove tap spindle?

Many thanks!

a long nosed shifting spanner (Trojan) is very helpful to remove it.

Change the spindle to new one together with new water set from Bunnings

Hello @Honest52

It's great that @Noyade's suggestion has helped you fix your spindle repair project. Would it be possible for you to post a photo of the new spindle set? I'm sure our members would be keen to see the final outcome of the repair.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know,

Eric
