How to remove a mirror from a tile wall?

Hi! We have a cheap mirror which has desilvered. It has been attached to tiles in the bathroom with Liquid Nails. I need to remove it from the tiles, what is the best way to do this?

Thanks!

Re: How to remove a mirror from a tile wall?

Hi @Janew,

Thank you for your question about removing a mirror from a tile wall.

I'll start by saying your mirror isn't necessarily made of glass, but for your safety, we should treat it with the assumption that it is glass. As you know, glass can shatter and cause lacerations, so I'd recommend wearing long protective clothing, enclosed shoes, eye protection and gloves while carrying out any work with your mirror.

Start by putting a cross of tape across the mirror from corner to corner. If it shatters, this will help hold things together. I'd also suggest attaching a towel over the front of the mirror to catch the glass if it breaks.

You'll then have to use a prybar to pry the mirror away from the wall. Use a block to protect the tiles. Some scrap timber or a book will work. Place the prybar under the edge of the mirror and use the block to lever off.

You may need to use some force, but this is the best way to get the mirror off the wall.

As I have mentioned there are risks involved so if you are not comfortable with this, it might be worth getting a handyperson or glazier to give you some help.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Jacob
