Sparky chased the brick wall. Just wondering how best to patch it up?
Thanks
Hi @jordanperret,
You might like to post some images of the wall so our members have a better idea of what you're working with. They'll then be able to recommend suitable products.
For instance, if this was a rendered brick wall, and provided the cables have been adequately encased in conduit, you could fill the area with Dingo Fast Set Mortar. Take care to replicate the finish of the surrounding wall so it's an invisible repair.
If this is a brick wall with no coating, the mortar can still be used, but obviously, you'll have a distinctive repaired section. You might consider rendering or painting the wall to mask the repair.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Woops sorry i thought i had included the photo. I have added it now. The cables have not been encased so i guess i can do myself?
Hi @jordanperret,
Let me tag @CSParnell to see if they have any thoughts on whether it's acceptable to fill over cables that are not enclosed in conduit.
Mitchell
@MitchellMc fast set morter will work well and it dose set fast so mix in smaller batches or work quickly use a steel float .
Technically that cable should be in a conduit or box more so if the cable is running externally on the wall surface, but a cable enclosed in a cement solid sheath covering is more protected they a electrical cable inside a gyprock wall. So do the maths on that situation @jordanperret for yourself.
Why didnt the Electrician use conduit in the first place one would ask maybe as it is an internal wire not external.
I dont think your job is shoddy or dangerous any more than my place with exposed electrical wires inside gyprock once those wires covered up.
Sorry if I gave you reason to doubt you electricians work.
You could get 10 electricians and they all wont agree on the same interpretation of the rules here.
As a bunnings advice channel the advice has to be more towards the strongest legal side of rule interpretation.
I hope this helps.
Ahhh no that's all good, thanks very much for your help. Appreciate it!

As per AS 3000
The ruling is a minimum 50mm depth from surface to cable without mechanical protection provided the circuit is protected by an RCD or RCBO
Else it needs to be mechanical protection eg in conduit.
Honestly if it were me I would put it in conduit either way because you as an owner or the next might hang a picture right where the cable runs.
And as always and I've said it a million times electrical is not a DIY job always engage a licensed electrical contractor to carry out the works, the first time may be your last.
As explained by @CSParnell, it needs to be redone by your electrician. Once your electrician digs the chase properly and has added the necessary conduit, that would be the only time I recommend covering it up.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
