Hello - I have a shower grate which although when installed it looked like stainless steel it is not. It has ugly marks all over it and I have tried to clean it and in my scrubbing attempt I can now see a brass colour. I would love to get it replaced but it is all concreted in - like a silver square and then the grate in the middle. Can I paint this? Images to follow.
Hello @mazza007
Thanks for sharing your question regarding your shower grate. I suggest having a good look at this discussion - How to paint a shower grate?. In the discussion you'll find detailed instructions on how to prepare your shower waste for repainting. If you read further along, I've also made recommendations on what paint to use if you have a brass shower waste instead of a plastic one.
The general steps are to sand down the waste to remove the old chrome surface, wash it in soap and water to remove all the mould and mildew that is on it. Do the same thing for the square grate in your tiles. Mask off the areas you don't want to paint and make sure to leave the painted brass piece in the sun to harden the paint. Most importantly don't forget to use the clear coat for extra protection.
Please keep in mind that this is now a painted surface, and its coating will not last as long as the chrome cover. It will be necessary to touch it up from time to time as the paint wears away.
