How to install Ramset M4 x 8mm Hollow Wall Anchor?

Dear Expert

I uses Ramset M4 x 8mm Hollow Wall Anchor

https://www.bunnings.com.au/ramset-m4-x-8mm-hollow-wall-anchor-10-pack_p2260115?store=7379&gad_sourc...

At a bathroom to install new a toilet roll holder,,,,,I bought the one in the link above assuming the thickness of plasterboard is 13mm

I followed the installation instruction on the box (attached) it says :

1- Drill an 8mm diameter hole into the substrate

2-Tap the anchor into the hole until it is flush with the surface of the substrate

3-,,,,,,etc

I tried to use two wall anchors both of them their legs not expand like the fifth attached photos (from Bunnings website) and hence

the anchors were spinning inside the hole

Re: Ramset M4 x 8mm Hollow Wall Anchor failed to get it installed

Hi @zillah

Your problem is  fixable a couple of  different ways.

All we  need to do is stop the anchor spinning in the wall so the  metal starts expanding and grabbing the wall behind  as it was  meant to.

1 ) If the anchor can still pull out with out force i would  wrap some tape (any tape) around the shaft just behind the large flange enough so when you reinsert it into the wall the anchor dosnt rotate at all just so you can use a screw driver to activate the clamp.  Instead of  tape a strip of paper wrapped around might work to if it willl fit in the  hole making a friction  fit..  If  fit too tight  shorten  paper strip or tape so theres less thickness to the shaft.

2 ) with a  pair of pliers grab the  large flange and hold it while  you have some one turn the screw to expand the anchor enough so it starts  grabbing  inside the wall as it was designed too,

3 )  Take anchor out and add some glue (probably any  glue) to where the back of the large flanges  shaft touches the inside of the wall. (not all the way along the fastener.

Good luck  hope this helps

Re: Ramset M4 x 8mm Hollow Wall Anchor failed to get it installed

Hi @zillah,

Any of @Jewelleryrescue's ideas should work, but the easiest is likely number 2.

If you stick the anchor just past halfway into the wall, hold the flange or the shaft with some pliers, and get the expansion started. Once it has started that little bit, put it fully in place and continue to rotate the screw.

Oftentimes you just need the screw to start biting that little bit to get things going.

Let us know how you go.

Re: Ramset M4 x 8mm Hollow Wall Anchor failed to get it installed

Hi @zillah,

I thought I'd add that when inserting, you might need to press the fixing in firmly or give it a little tap with a hammer. The fitting has two pressed teeth, designed to bite into the plasterboard and stop it from rotating, allowing expansion.

See something interesting? Give it the thumbs up!

Hi Mitchel

Attached instruction says “anti-rotation barbs “ but those got snapped when i was relying on them to prevent spin

Hi @zillah,

If you don't have any luck with the troubleshooting steps above, this Ramset Hollow Wall Anchor Setting Tool is designed for use with these anchors.

It would be worth looking into.

Re: Ramset M4 x 8mm Hollow Wall Anchor failed to get it installed

Thanks @Jewelleryrescue @JacobZ @MitchellMc,,,,,,I applied the below method

2 ) with a pair of pliers grab the large flange and hold it while you have some one turn the screw to expand the anchor enough so it starts grabbing inside the wall as it was designed too.

I am considering to get this as well for future use
