How to fix washing machine hose leaking at tap?

Hello, we’ve recently moved into this place and have tried to set up a new washing machine but the hose is leaking at the tap end. We’ve tried plumbers tape to no avail. Any advice on how to fix this would be much appreciated!!

Re: Washing machine hose leaking at tap

Hi @dizzydance

Turn off water   first  ie the tap above

You need to tighten that screw on hose much tighter so the  washer works,  Try  using your tools to tightnen it   pliers,  multi grips if your fingers  give out.

Wrapping a cloth on it to will help with grip.

Well that screw   thread is a pressure fit  that  compresses a  rubber washer inside the fitting.  Do you see a washer inside the hose fitting in a rare case it could be  missing needing a replacment.

Tighten it first  I am sure it will work 95%

Re: Washing machine hose leaking at tap

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @dizzydance. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about a leaking hose.

@Jewelleryrescue is on the money there. Either you haven't tightened it enough, or the washer is missing or perished. Try tightening first, and if that doesn't resolve the issue, replace the washer. When you do so, remove the plumber's tape, as this type of connection doesn't need it, and the tape will actually make it leak more as it prevents the washer from being compressed. The water isn't coming from the fittings thread, which is what plumbers tape seals, it's coming from where the hose enters the fitting. It's the washer's job to seal that area and the pipe threads.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
