How to fix push plug that no longer fits in bathroom sink?

So I have one of those

push plug things and it recently got stuck. Managed to remove the whole thing from the bottom and get a plumber mate to un-stuck it, but it won't go back in the sink correctly. Its like it has nothing to sit on and falls straight through the hole. Im not sure what happened in the process. How do I fix this?

Hello @fungry_04

Thanks for sharing your question about your push plug and waste. I'm afraid the circlip holding the assembly has rusted through and finding a replacement is very difficult difficult. Plus, due to the rusted bottom part of the plunger, I don't think the circlip will be able to hold on.

In this particular instance, I propose replacing the entire set with a new modern plug and waste such as Kinetic 32mm Chrome Pop Up Basin Waste With Overflow. Just a friendly reminder that all plumbing work must be done by a registered plumber.

I recommend bringing your old plug and waste with you to the store and compare it to the new set you'll be getting. This is to make sure that you get the right size and length.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
