Hi,
I have a section of the bathroom wall next to the shower that started peeling. I ripped off the paint and it looks like some of the top layer of the wall sheet has come off as well.
I also noticed that there are small hairline cracks in the paint where it appears two wall sheets join horizontally. This is in several spots around the bathroom (all at the same height).
I've upgraded the exhaust fan and told my kids to start using it every time just in case this is moisture related.
I have left this exposed for over a month and it doesn't appear to be any worse. The wall with the large peeled section sits right next to the shower cubicle. The backside of this wall (backs on to the hallway) doesn't show any signs of water damage directly behind the shower or down near the skirting boards.
Thanks in advance, Adam.
Hello @dant
I suggest sanding the edge of the damaged section until it is clean and level. I then recommend using Nordsjo Professional 1L Light And Smooth Super Filler to fill in the damaged section. Once the filler cures you can then sand it down until it is at the same level as the wall. You can then clean the wall and paint it with primer and top coat. The small cracks can also be filled with the Nordsjo filler.
I believe this damage is due to movement and not a moisture related problem. Moisture damage often has telltale signs such as curling paint surfaces, wet edges and mould and mildew infestation. The damage on your wall appears to be dry and free of mould.
