How to fix peeling paint in bathroom?

Hi, Large patch of bathroom ceiling has come off. I was told that the ceiling is plaster glass and needs special treatment and can't be painted over as it might peel off again. Please advise what is the right course of repairing to get it fixed permanently.

Re: How to fix peeling paint in bathroom?

Hi @sarose,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

You'll have to start by scraping off the failing paint using a paint scraper. This is a necessary step as the original layer of paint has not stuck to the surface above. If you were to paint over it, the new paint would stick to the old paint, which is still failing.

Prior to painting, plaster-glass surfaces should be primed with a sealing primer such as this Dulux 10L PRECISION Sealer Binder.

Once the ceiling has been primed, you can paint over it with a water-based ceiling paint.

Check out How To Paint a Ceiling for some guidance on this process.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
