How to fix leaking water pipe?

Hello team workshop , is there a product available to fix a hole in the cold water pipe to the sink. Is it possible to use a “ bandage “ type product to fix the leak with the pipe staying in place

looking for a wrap around type material that solidifies and tightens onto the pipe blocking the hole and leak

any body had a similar problem and found a solution, feed back is most appreciated

Re: How to fix leaking water pipe?

Hi @cade

A)  First I am assuming a  copper pipe leak here let me know if this is  wrong.  I am also  assuming a small leak not a  ruptured pipe burst which  would  be best  cut out and re soldered with a  copper joiner  which is the best long term solution by the way if the pipe can not be  replaced easialy.

B  )  New  tech is  here  to no soldering. super simple to do.  SmarteX  Same as  solution A) just no soldering required.

Another  Simple but highly effective joiner  used on clean copper pipe cut neatly at 90 degrees  is as follows.

Where the  leak is if possible cut it at 90 degrees cleanly lightly sand edges too and push the copper tube 1/2 inch onto each end and jobs done.  A special  plastic tool can be used to release the join and reconnect found at bunnings too there  are two different sized tools I bought both  for my  plumbing  kit.  You  may need to cut to the  left and right of the leak zone to get back to straight pipe the coupling is  approx 30mm long and will fill that gap if length is critical.

SmarteX-C 1/2" Straight Coupling $6.71

There are some products.

That may work for you.

Epoxy  putty  (wear  gloves as the mixture heats up on application)  Thhere are several flavours of this product at bunnings the best match would be plumbers putty .

Bostik Sealant 250g Plumbers  putty https://www.bunnings.com.au/bostik-sealant-250g-plumbers-putty_p0929837  $12.60

Bandages well I are  hit and  miss success and are more  short term,

Some migth use a  pipe ring / pipe clamp with a rubber patch across the hole. Ok if you get this right it will work but isnt pretty

I would go with option B if the pipe inst wall attached and replaceable.

Re: How to fix leaking water pipe?

Hello @cade

The typical pressure inside your cold-water pipe is around 500kpa. That is a lot of pressure being held in by your cold-water pipe and a break in the pipe is often catastrophic. It's also an indication that the pipe might need to be replaced. In this particular instance, I suggest engaging the services of a licensed plumber and getting it repaired properly. Please note that any plumbing part replacement or repair must be carried out by a licensed plumber for safety and compliance.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
