Hi Community,
I've encountered a strange issue with my basin tap. Water seeps around the tap quite quickly, even though I've shut off the hot and cold water supply valves below. I'm trying to determine whether I should replace the basin tap or inspect for further leaks.
My confusion arises because, despite turning off both the hot and cold water supplies (with no water coming from the tap itself), there is still seepage around it.
Any advice on why this might be happening and what steps I should take would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Hello @Ton
Please note that it might be necessary to engage a licensed plumber to complete this work. If in doubt consult your local building authority before you begin.
Thanks for sharing your question about your basin tap. The leak is probably originating from the ceramic cartridge of the tap. Even though you've turned it off, water is bypassing the cartridge and passing through the sides ending up on the top of the basin mixer and overflowing.
If you are familiar with basin mixer repairs, it might be possible to replace the cartridge of your mixer with a generic set. However, you also have the option of replacing the entire basin mixer.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Hi Eric,
Thanks very much for the advice.
We may replace the basin taps or replace the vanity as a whole. Just wonder whether we need to use a professional plumber to replace the taps or vanity? Or a handyman can do this?
Hello @Ton
It's best to avail the services of a registered plumber so that any plumbing work will be done to code and under warranty. Technically the basin tap can still be repaired, but if you feel that it is time for a new model then I suggest visiting your local store and having a look at the basin mixers available.
If you need further assistance, please let me know.
