How to fix a leaking shower frame?

I've noticed a small stream of water leaking from the bottom of my shower frame. The first photo below is taken from outside the shower and shows the rough area where I believe the leak is coming from.

I've also included a photo below of the inside of the shower frame as well.

I've done a bit of searching on the Bunnings Workshop website and found some DIY videos.

Can I solve this leak by just adding some silicon along the edge of the frame?

And should I silicon the edge of the frame inside or outside? Or both?

Re: Leaking shower frame

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @yohfdo. It's marvellous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about solving a shower leak.

Unless you were going to have the shower screen removed to reapply the sealant under the bottom frame, then applying a wet-area sealant to the inside edge of the frame would be the next best option. You could also add the silicone on the outside, but if your inside sealant is effectively applied, you shouldn't need to. Here's a helpful step-by-step guide: How to apply silicone sealant.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Leaking shower frame

Thanks so much for the quick reply @MitchellMc.

Is it best if I apply the sealant along all edges? Vertical and horizontal?

Re: Leaking shower frame

I'd start with the horizontal and then do the vertical if the problem persists @yohfdo. However, it might be an idea to just seal all the edges in one go.

Re: Leaking shower frame

Hi Mitchell,

It took some time for me to get down to doing it, but finally got the chance to apply the sealant over the weekend but I still found a bit of water coming out from the other side of the frame.

I'm planning on adding another layer of sealant again, but I also found a few other spots which made me wonder if water is going through that?

Photo 1. There's some rusty edges on the shower frame (where the various pieces join each other) and a bit of the missing seal(?) between the frame and glass

Photos 2-4 - various points where the seal(?) is missing between the frame and glass

Photo 5 - there's a gap between shower-frame glass and the door that swings open - is there something I can put to see it a bit more?

Apologies if this post is too long. Happy to split it up into smaller posts.

Re: How to fix a leaking shower frame?

That's not too long, @yohfdo, especially since my advice will be the same for all those points, and that's to fill them up with silicone. It's certainly not going to hurt and will seal the gaps and potential leak points.

For the door hinge area, we have a range of shower door seals that can be used there.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
