I am in the middle of a full bathroom renovation and have fitted a shower/bath (not finished, plastic protective wrapper is still on the bath). The drain outlet I fitted was the plain Kinetic 32mm chrome waste (no pop-up or overflow). The question I have is that I think I have installed it incorrectly. There are 2 silicone gaskets supplied with the Kinetic drain, one for the base flange to go underneath the bath and one for the top to go underneath the Kinetic chrome cap and above the bath. As shown in the photos, the result of fitting the top silicone gasket above the bath outlet is that the top ring stands proud of the sink hole by 1 or 2 mm such that not all the bath water will drain away. Is this the correct fitting or should the Kinetic drain be flush with the bath surface. Should I have not fitted the top gasket and just used silicone sealant? Many thanks for any assist.
HI,
Update on the size, the outlet fitting is 40 mm suitable for a bath, not 32 mm

Hello @mikel1
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your bath waste.
In this instance, I suggest using a thick fat bead of silicone on the top section instead of the provided rubber washer. This will allow the lip of the waste to settle on the very surface of the bath and allow the water to drain properly.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hi Eric,
Thanks very much for your feedback. I really didn't want to have to remove the outlet but here we are. A bit more info to my problem is that my 70's house has concrete slab underneath the bathroom (and laundry) so my renovation had to use the pre-exiting drain/outlet position. (I wasn't about to remove concrete between the joists).
However this meant for my shower/bath I only have about a 10cm gap between the bath base and the concrete floor. Thankfully I only completed 270 degrees of mortar bedding (and limited framework, no tiling as yet), as this enabled me to have limited access to the brass locking nut under the drain outlet. Access was very tight, so I purchased a narrow profile Irwin 250mm vise grip pliers (from Bunnings) which then enabled me to clamp the brass locking nut. Using a modified tube spanner cut with 6 cut-outs to engage the 6 spoke outlet from the top, and with assistance from my family, I was able to unscrew the drain outlet body see photos.
ps I have to make a cut tube spanner tool to rotate the assembly from above as there was not a suitable tool available (either from Kinetic or from my local Plumber Supplies). Amazon do sell a 4-prong drain removal wrench.
There was no application note. It would have been very helpful if Kinetic had given a short application note with their 40mm basin waste product to let customers know that their pre-formed top seal was optional and to check surface smoothness when assembling. There is no instruction. This would have avoided this unwanted, unnecessary and difficult situation (for a DIY application).
In the end I am relieved the job is done and I can re-do correctly.
Cheers
Mike
