Re: How to drill into plasterboard and stud?

Hi @Bourkey,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

When selecting a drill bit for the pilot hole into the stud, you are aiming to find a drill bit that is the same diameter as the shank, but smaller than the outer diameter of the thread.

The way I learnt to do this is to place the drill bit directly in front of the screw. If you can see the thread on either side of the drill bit, but can't see the shank, then that is the perfect sized drill bit. See the below image as an example.

Unfortunately, the plastic anchor you've received is not used for anchoring to plasterboard. It is used for anchoring in brick and masonry.

You'll need to grab a Ramset Nylon WallMate Plasterboard Anchor, which is self-drilling so there's no need for a pilot hole.

Once the wallmate is installed, it is as simple as driving the screw into the wallmate.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Jacob
