How to create a laundry space in your garage?

IMG_20210908_104153.jpg

Hello,

Has anyone created a laundry space in their garage?
Im currently waiting to build my first home and the laundry tub is in the garage on the back wall. Im wanting to add a bench to cover the washing machine and dryer and add some cupboards above.

I have added a photo of the garage plans.
Does anyone have any tips ?

Advice much appreciated.

Hi @Klarebear,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. We're pleased to have you join us and look forward to seeing your laundry project progress to completion.

One project that immediately springs to mind that you might find useful for inspiration is this one by @boris - Moved laundry to garage.

You should also find this guide by @Adam_W useful: How to plan a laundry renovation.

I would encourage you to share a basic sketch and/or some photos with us, along with some dimensions of the area, so we can better see what you are working with and what you have planned. We'll be happy to assist.

Many thanks,

Jason

Re: How to create a laundry space in your garage?

Thank you for your message. I have up loaded a pic of the garage dimensions.

I extended the garage 600mm to allow for a laundry space and storage at the back of the garage.

Re: How to create a laundry space in your garage?

Hello @Klarebear

Thank you so much for posting your laundry measurements. I've made a sketch of a basic laundry layout that can be placed in your garage. The 450mm pantry is for your cleaning products and the 900mm pantry is a mix-use space from linen to Christmas lights. However, you still have storage space on the left and right of your garage. Have a look at the sketch and if you wish to see a different configuration, please let me know.

Re: How to create a laundry space in your garage?

Hi @EricL

This looks amazing i love it. Heaps of storage space.

The only thing id change is space for the dryer next to the washing machine.

Wow, ok so is this something i can purchase all through bunnings and I just have to build it at home?

How do I go about this?

Really greatful for your help!

Re: How to create a laundry space in your garage?

Hello @Klarebear

I'm glad my suggestion meets with your approval. I've rearranged the cabinets to make room for the dryer and I've placed the new sketch at the bottom for you to look at. If you have your own handyman to assemble your laundry all you have to do is to buy the materials and your handyman will do the rest. If you wish to assemble the laundry yourself you can purchase the materials and put it together yourself. However, there is also the option of asking the store for a laundry assembly service.

I recommend speaking to the In-Store Kitchen Specialist so that they can guide you on the cabinet sizes, door styles, processing, and delivery of your laundry kit. Below is the list of cabinets that I've used for your design.

There is a great deal of choice when it comes to timber benchtops, I encourage you to visit your local store and browse the samples and see which one is to your liking. The sink that I've used for your sketch is the Mondella Rococo Square Single Bowl Sink. I recommend the Methven WELS 4 Star, 7.5L/Min Matte Black Glide Sink Mixer for its excellent craftsmanship and long warranty to finish off the look.

Using Self Stick vinyl Tiles is one of the easiest flooring options you can go for. However, if you wish to have more substance to your flooring, I suggest using Hybrid Waterproof Flooring. This can withstand soaking and accidental flooding should it occur in your garage.

Please keep us updated, any updates you can provide while building your laundry would be much appreciated.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric

Re: How to create a laundry space in your garage?

Hi @EricL

This looks amazing, i am so pleasantly surprised at how much help you have been!
Yes ok next steps i'll go in and check out what timber benchtops there are i love this look. Will definitely keep you posted with progress along the way, although i am a we way away from starting.
I just realized i probably dont need to purchase the standard vanity that comes with the house as it wont be used. Would i need to get a plumber in to fit taps before this gets installed? (i really dont know what order things need to happen)
I like the sound of self stick vinyl tiles, too nice finish.
 Claire

Also @Eric i was checking out all the products online, doesnt look like they come with hinges or handles- how many hinges are needed for the tall pantry cupboards? x4 ? and i guess x2 on each of the other cabinet doors? im guessing about x26 hinges?

Thank you
Claire

Re: How to create a laundry space in your garage?

Hello @Klarebear

I'm glad I could help you with your laundry layout. Building a new home can seem overwhelming and you sometimes lose focus and get sidetracked by issues relating to a certain part of the build. I recommend making a list of things for each room. For example:

Bathroom 1

By preparing each item that will go into each room, you can provide this information to your building manager and they will be able to organize the trades. This information also serves as a guide for the plumber, electrician, tiler, and painter. By preparing this list ahead of time, it will save you confusion and prevent you from feeling stressed because you don't know what's going in that room.

If you would like some help with your kitchen and bathroom layout please let us know. I'm sure our members are more than happy to provide you with advice and information should you need it.

Re: How to create a laundry space in your garage?

Hi @Klarebear

I'm so sorry I forgot to answer your Kaboodle Hinge question. Yes, you will need 13 Kaboodle Standard Door Hinges - 1 Pair for a total of 26 pieces. You also have the option of getting the soft close hinges so that you will avoid bruised fingers and slamming cabinet doors.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
