How to close gap between concrete floor and wall?

Hi everyone  we are looking to DIY waterproof and tile our laundry (directly onto the current concrete floor), but have ran into a bit of trouble once we removed the skirting boards. Realised that the previous owners have poured the concrete possibly with the skirts attached, leaving a big gap once we removed that needs to be filled before we can prime ans waterproof. Any ideas on the best way to do this + products to use? Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated  Thanks!

Re: How to close gap between concrete floor and wall?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @SuzanneDIY. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about preparing for waterproofing.

That looks like a situation where a floor leveller would work well. Remove any debris before filling the void, so it's level with the floor. Were you planning on waterproofing the floor and then up onto the pre-painted wallboard? Typically membranes adhere best to bare or primed cement sheeting.

You should find this step-by-step guide useful: How to waterproof your bathroom floor. Let me also tag one of our resident waterproofing experts @Vis-á-vis to see if they have any thoughts.

Re: How to close gap between concrete floor and wall?

Hi Mitchell,

Thanks for your advice! we've spoken to one of our trades and he has also recommended using a leveller.

Additionally, he also suggested using waterproofing bandage where the wall meets the floor before we apply the primer and paint on the waterproofing membrane.

We'll give it a go and provide some updates!

Re: How to close gap between concrete floor and wall?

Hi @SuzannaDIY,

Using the flexible bandage on all corners is a very important step, especially in older dwellings where you're likely to experience significant movement between the different surfaces. It provides the flexibility required to accommodate for wall and floor movement whilst protecting the waterproofing layer.

I can't wait for the updates, and please reach out again if you need assistance.
