How to add handheld to ceiling mounted rain shower?

Hi there. Bought a new house which has a ceiling mounted rain shower controlled by a single mixer. The walls are tiled to ceiling and the house is only three years old so I don’t want to replace anything as yet.

I would love to have a hand held shower though and wondered if there was one that perhaps came out of the mixer outlet?  Meaning that the hose and tap could be in line on the exterior of the wall perhaps?

Hello @susanescott

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your shower head.

I suggest having a quick look at this discussion - How to replace rain head with handheld shower? by @alwynprashant. Although technically possible, it will require a fair bit of plumbing and tile drilling to transfer and divert the flow of water to its new location.

I'm currently unaware of a quick fix attachment that will automatically allow you to divert the flow of water to another handheld set. Another issue would be the height of the rainhead, if it is too high you won't be able to divert it from the head.

If you decide to add an extra outlet on your tile wall, I suggest engaging the services of a licensed plumber. They will be able to determine the best route for plumbing and they'll be able to give you a quote on how much the service will cost.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Thanks Eric. I had read that but had hoped that there was a way of piggy backing off the mixer instead. Doesn’t look like that’s an option.

Hi @susanescott

I'm afraid it will involve a bit of plumbing on your part if you are after a secondary outlet. You'll need to engage the services of a licensed plumber to cut into the tiles and add an extra outlet. I also propose asking for quotes from plumbing firms in your area in order to get an idea of the ongoing rates in your area.

If you need further assistance, please let me know.
